Communications on White Light

• Speaking in Cyberspace
  • Speak in the virtual room you are in with the Say command.
  • Speak directly to another player there with the Ask command.
  • Speak quietly with the Whisper command.
  • Send a message by telepathy to another player with the Tell command.
  • Reply by telepathy to a tell with the Reply command.
• Screaming in Cyberspace
  • Shout broadcasts your message to everyone in your geographic zone.
  • Holler broadcasts to everyone in the game but costs 20 movement points.
• Body Language in Cyberspace
  • Emote allows you to make gestures within the game.
  • Gemote allows you to send virtual images of gestures over the gossip channel.
  • Socials are shortcuts to standard emote commands.
• Silence in Cyberspace
  • You can toggle on and off various means of communication, such as channels, shouts, and tells.
  • You can see your communications settings within the game by typing: toggle

• Communications Channels are radio channels accessed through the Corporation Nanotech Implant all players are fitted with at birth. Since the Artificial Intelligence Rebellion, communication through these means is chaotic at best. However, individual shutoff controls still function. Instructions for shutoff of specific channels are available on White Light by typing: help channels
  • Auction - for selling game items to other players,
  • Flame - for whining, complaining, taunting and inflaming,
  • Gossip - for general chatter within the game,
  • Gratz - for shrieks of delight and congratulation of other players,
  • Newbie - help for new users,
  • OOC - Out-Of-Character channel for non-role-playing gossip,
  • Sing - for cybersinging and discussion of music (OOC allowed),
  • Stuff - for discussing cars & guitars, shopping & shoes, (OOC allowed)
  • Xgossip - for gossip using language that may be offensive to some users.

• Messages
  • Message Boards
    • Open -anyone may read these boards.
      • Corporation - notices of Corporation events.
      • Corrections - sentences are listed here and jailed player characters may leave messages to, or receive messages from, the public.
      • Public - for general player character messages.
      • Wanted - contains descriptions of wanted fugitives.
    • Class-specific - these boards are available only in the private clubs.

      • Mentalists
      • Socialites
  • Private Messages
    • Mail service is available through the Downtown Post Office.
    • Notes may be written on virtual paper and passed between players.

• Off-game Communications
  • White Light operates two, open mailing lists:
    • White Light Announce - for announcement of IP address changes only.
    • White Light - a discussion list open to all.
